The Prairie Labyrinth

Labyrinths have been making their indelible mark on humanity since the Bronze Age, showing up most prominently during times of chaos and change. These ancient patterns of transformation seem to reemerge when we most need to reconnect to one another, our communities and ourselves. The current labyrinth revival is stronger than it's ever been, drawing people around the world from every denomination and all walks of life.

Creating an earth-based labyrinth is creating living Art.
The art of living is the art of changing directions. A labyrinth imitates Life's journey taking you through reversals or constant turning points, but they are designed to ultimately return you to your center.

Walking or finger-walking a labyrinth is a simple whole-body prayer, reconnecting you with your internal rhythm, your highest wisdom and the Source of All That Is.

Overview:

Since 1987, Toby Evans has been practicing earth stewardship on property purchased near Kansas City, Missouri. During this time a prairie restoration project was initiated by planting warm season grasses on 5 acres. The project evolved from a network of paths cut around the perimeter of the prairie to constructing and maintaining a single-path labyrinth in the center. A Seven-Circuit, Classical pattern was mowed into the grass on March 23, 1995 by Toby and Mary K Barge. It is called the Prairie Labyrinth.

Integrating color, sound and symbols, the seven paths were set up to correspond with the traditional order of the Chakras, running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Using the pathways as a centering practice for herself and hundreds of others, Toby was guided to write her own amazing story in

  • "Keeper of the Circles: Answering the Call to Wholeness" and develop the companioning
  • "Chakra Labyrinth Cards".
Use them as self-reflective tool for yourself or with a group to promote awareness, empower change and inspire inner peace.
