Chakra ALIGNED Labyrinth

"Chakra" is a Sanskrit word for the energetic force centers of our spiritual bodies. Many traditions recognize seven, primary energy-centers and equate the 7 colors of the rainbow with the pulsating energy frequencies. Each chakra has its own harmonic pattern that creates color, sound, and function as well as vibrating at its own rate.

Within the labyrinth world, Sig Lonegren was the first to suggest a chakra/labyrinth path relation. In a seven-circuit labyrinth the paths are laid out in the standard sequence of 3-2-1-4-7-6-5 indicating that you enter on the third path. This would be the Yellow path correlating with the Solar Plexus.

Beginning at the base of the spine the chakras and corresponding colors are:

1. Root Chakra -Red
2. Sacral or Pelvic Chakra - Orange
3. Solar Plexus Chakra - Yellow
4. Heart Chakra - Green
5.Throat Chakra - Blue
6.Third Eye or Brow Chakra - Indigo
7. Crown Chakra - Violet

Up until 1998, I used this color/chakra correlation.
At each turning point within the Prairie Labyrinth a fence post was sunk in the ground and color was used to identify the chakra correspondingh with each path.

Nischa Roman is an artist, dowser, and healer who has worked with labyrinths for many years.
In meditation she received the guidance to rearrange the color pattern we were accustomed to following
by placing them in the order that the chakras run through our bodies.

This means instead of associating the beginning path with Yellow, entering at the Solar Plexus, we would be starting with Red, at the Root Chakra.
And, instead of looking at an overall rainbow design, we would be following the rainbow in its' sequential order. The energy would be flowing from the Root to the Crown chakra and back again returning us to a "grounded" state.

I was reluctant to change from the original rainbow pattern but, energetically,
the Chakra Aligned design carries an expansive resonance that is indicative of
the new energy entering the planet.
A 17 foot portable "Chakra Labyrinth" was created by Mary K Barge sewn
out of rip-stop nylon. It can be used in any setting. Outer loops are attached to secure
it to the ground for outdoor walking experiences. It may be rented for private occassions depending on the circumstances.

At each turning point within the Prairie Labyrinth, a fence post is sunk in the ground to inform the walker of the correlation between the path they are on and the chakra that aligns with it. This is achieved by using color, sound and art.
Sound comes from individual windchimes that take you through the C Major scale.
Clay Chakra Angels were created by Toby Evans in corresponding colors to guide you through each turn providing a reflection station for Release and Renewal.
The angels were the inspiration for developing the "Chakra Labyrinth Cards".

They are pictured on the front of the cards with chakra related Release and Renew statements on the back. There are 55 cards in the deck with 7 cards for each of the 7 chakras and 5 Integration cards representing the elements of Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Ether. The images of the angels bring the energy of the Prairie Labyrinth to you.
.

The following pictures will take you through the turning posts or "Gateways" of reflection within the Prairie Labyrinth.

Beginning of the Labyrinth.

The butterfly is painted on the beginning post as a symbol of transformation.
Behind it is the "labrys" or the sacred double-headed axe of the Goddess. This has significance to the ancient Minoans. At the temple at Knossos on Crete, labyrs were found carved on walls throughout the labyrinthine stone corridors. This structure became known as the labyrinth, the dwelling of the labyrs. One interpretation of the labrys symbol is that of the butterfly. Its symmetry reminds us of balance.

Entering the labyrinth is a committment to rebalance body, mind and spirit.

Walking through the labyrinth is akin to walking through your own energy bodies. At each Gateway post you may stop and reflect asking,
"What do I most need to release or receive from my Root Chakra? ...Sacral Charkra? ...Solar Plexus?...etc.
You may choose to ask this as you scroll down through each image.

The Goal area or center of the Prairie labyrinth.
A 6-pointed copper star is mounted above the center post. It symbolizes bringing together the Earth and the Sky or the Divine Feminine and Masculine energies that are present in all. This photo was taken during a prairie burn which is planned every 2-3 years.

There are four benches within the goal area and an altar space.
Resting within the labyrinth is a good reminder to return to the center of yourself.
